So as many of you know, I have been thinking of leaving the research world for the last several months. Like many other fields, the economy has effected research is a large way. With cut backs, pharmaceutical companies are spending less on research along with our federal government.I thought that it may be a sign that after eight years in this line of nursing, maybe it was time I needed to move on. For many weeks, I combed the job board daily for just the right job change (still within the University, after 14 years there, it would be silly to leave)
I decided to think back to what my goals were when I first graduated. I always wanted to work in the emergency room and decided the ortho/trauma floor would be a good start and after a few years, I would transfer. Instead, I was lured away to research and eight years later...I am going back to the original plan.
Effective April 10th, I am leaving research and going to be a staff nurse in the emergency department. For six months, I will be in an internship program with intense training both in the emergency room and in the classroom. After the training is complete, I will be working three twelve hours shifts per week.
I am excited and nervous at the same time.

Yes, that is quite a change, Mary! Congrats. I hope training goes well. Talk about picking up the pace! Those 12 hour shifts will be grueling but I'll bet they'll fly by.
yes, and I hope my four days off a week will go slow.
7am-7pm or 7pm-7am?
Yes, I will have loads of fun.
